Convenience and Quality: Quick Lab Services

Waiting for test results can be no big deal, but more often than not, you’d rather get them back sooner than later. If the results could indicate a serious problem, some exciting news or even offer you a clean bill of health, getting the results quickly can mean a huge sigh of relief.

At a typical doctor’s office, patients have to wait by the phone for their physician to get back in touch with them. This process often takes up to a week while lab results are tested and analyzed in a different location and then returned to the doctor. Once the information has been returned to the doctor, many patients even need to make a return visit to the office to discuss the lab results and implications.

At American Family Care, our clinics have on-site lab testing, which can give you a result within as little as 10 minutes for some tests. Our doctors have access to a lab just moments away, so you can get expedited answers and discuss your results during your visit. Patients won’t need to wait by the phone or schedule a followup appointment just to get their results. This offers our patients a quicker diagnosis and more efficient treatment plan.
The same goes for getting x-rays taken. Whether it is a sports injury, on-the-job accident, mysteriously sore joint or another health concern, often patients need an x-ray. Rather than traveling to a separate location to have x-rays taken, or having your results sent elsewhere to be analyzed, our urgent care centers have on-site x-rays and analysis, giving you a thorough answer more quickly.

Some of the tests that can be performed in our labs include:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC): Evaluates overall health and detects problems like anemia, infection and leukemia. The looks at red and white blood cell counts, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelet levels.
  • Urinalysis: Urinalysis tests can check for pregnancy, kidney disease and diabetes and are used for drug screening. Cloudy urine can indicate a urinary tract infection, while extra protein in the urine may signal kidney issues.
  • Cultures: These test for strep throat and the fly. They are easily and usually painlessly done with a simple throat swab.
  • Chemistry: Our chemistry tests check for signs of dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities and liver function abnormalities. These panels often check the levels of sodium, potassium, proteins and glucose in the body.

Don’t hesitate to drop by your local American Family Care for a checkup and blood work or to see what the right course of action may be for an injury. You won’t need an appointment, and we’ll have your results for you during your visit, saving you time and money. What would you do with that extra time on your hands?
