COVID-19 Diagnostic
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, AFC Urgent Care Cheltenham is performing COVID-19 diagnostic testing seven days a week for patients Cheltenham, Oak Lane, Wyncote, Melrose/Elkins Park, Wyndmoor, Chestnut Hill, Germantown & Northwest Philadelphia areas. COVID-19 is a virus that affects the upper respiratory systems that was originally detected in late 2019; since then, variants such as Delta, Omicron, BA.2, and others have arisen. The most effective way to diagnose a case of COVID-19 and its variants is through a nasal swab test, which is offered at AFC Urgent Care after an in-office visit. Testing options include a free antigen test as a part of a provider visit, send-out PCR tests, and rapid PCR tests (rapid PCR tests are self-pay only and Medicaid plans are not eligible).
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
Symptoms of COVID-19 may vary widely from case to case, with patients testing positive while asymptomatic to experiencing severe symptoms including chest tightness and shortness of breath. Patients can contract COVID-19 by direct contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus or through community spread, when you are unsure when you were exposed. Symptoms of the virus may include:
- Dry, persistent cough
- High fever over 102 F
- Shortness of breath
- Recent loss of taste and/or smell
- Chest and nasal congestion
- Muscle, head and full body aches
