What Is Bronchitis?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchi, the air pathways to the lungs. While both men and women can experience bronchitis, women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with chronic bronchitis than men.

In addition, smokers or people who used to smoke are at a higher risk for bronchitis than non-smokers.

Symptoms of Bronchitis

  • Cough
  • Excess production of mucus
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Slight fever
  • Chills
  • Chest discomfort

Is Bronchitis Contagious?

The good news is that bronchitis is not usually contagious. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't take steps to keep you and your loved ones healthy this season, especially if people are coughing and sneezing around you.

Make sure you are following a healthy diet, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking and washing your hands on a regular basis.

Treatment of Bronchitis

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
