How Do You Know If You Have Perfect Vision?
When your eye doctor states that you have 20/20 vision, it means your vision is in excellent condition and doesn't need the assistance of eye glasses or contacts.
However, when you start to experience poor vision, the bottom number begins to change, depending on how much your vision changes. For instance, if you have 20/30 vision, it means that your vision is worse than 20/20. While you are standing 20 feet from the eye chart, you can see what people with perfect vision (20/20) can see 30 feet away.
Ways to Protect Your Vision
- Know your risk for eye diseases.
- Have regular wellness checks for high blood pressure and diabetes.
- Watch out for changes in vision.
- Exercise on a regular basis.
- Protect your eyes from UV rays by wearing sunglasses when outside.
How Do I Establish Better Habits for Eye Health?
There are a number of things you can do on a daily basis in order to promote healthier vision. For starters, you want to make sure you eat a healthy, balanced diet, which should include at least five servings of fruits and vegetables.
Don't smoke, or stop if you do smoke—smoking is associated with a higher risk of developing certain eye diseases. You also want to take regular breaks from computer work in order to protect your eyesight.
