What Is Diabetes?
When a person has diabetes, it means he or she has too much sugar in the blood, also known as having high glucose levels. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 100 million adults living in the United States have either diabetes or prediabetes.
Fortunately, the condition can be managed—and even prevented—if the right steps are taken!
Signs of Diabetes
- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Extreme hunger
- Unexplained weight loss
How Can You Prevent Diabetes?
While you are not able to control your family history of diabetes, you are able to exercise on a regular basis, quit smoking, maintain a healthy weight and drink lots of water in order to strive to prevent the disease.
In addition, you want to make sure you undergo an annual glucose test so that you can catch the disease as quickly as possible—even if symptoms are not yet present.
