Will the Flu Give Me a Fever?

No one wants to get the flu. But, unfortunately, it happens.

One day you are fine. The next day you are experiencing body aches, a fever and fatigue, which are giveaways of the flu virus.

Our team at AFC Urgent Care Centennial wants to share some insight into the symptoms of the flu, as well as ways you can protect yourself and your family.

How Long Does the Fever Last With the Flu?

If you have ever had the flu, you know it can feel as though it lasts forever. However, for the most part, a fever and other flu-related symptoms only last around seven to 10 days.

But milder symptoms of the flu like a cough and weakness can last another week or two.

Other Symptoms of the Flu

  • Fever over 100.4 F
  • Aching muscles
  • Chills and sweats
  • Headache
  • Nasal congestion
  • Sore throat
  • Dry, persistent cough
  • Fatigue and weakness

Can the Flu Vaccine Give You the Flu?

This is one of the biggest arguments about the flu—that the vaccine can give you the flu. This is absolutely not true. The vaccine cannot give you the flu.

It takes two weeks for your body to build up antibodies against the flu after you receive the vaccination. So it is possible during that time for you to get the flu.

Ways to Prevent the Flu

  • Don’t touch your face.
  • Eat a healthy diet filled with fruits and veggies.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Get an annual flu shot.
  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Disinfect commonly touched surfaces.
