Are you getting ready to take on your resolutions in January? Chances are, you’re making your “Resolution List” and even checking it twice to ensure this is the year you actually accomplish what you say you will in the new year! Of course, what many do to keep on track is to reward themselves along the way. And while this can be a good thing, the type of reward you choose can be detrimental to your weight-loss goals. Here are some ways to give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done without putting back on what you worked so hard to lose.
Reward Yourself…but Not With Food
Yes, rewards are a wonderful way to keep you on track with your goals. Once you hit one milestone, you receive a prize. This worked for us when we were younger, and this method works for us even now! However, when your resolution is to lose weight, food isn’t necessarily the best way to reward your efforts. Instead, think of a different way to keep your motivation going.
First, buy yourself a gift that you can wear. You just lost 10 or 20 pounds! As a result, some of your clothing may be feeling a little (or a lot) loose. Take yourself shopping for a new clothing item that fits your new figure better.
Second, pamper yourself. Who doesn’t enjoy a little spa day? Get a manicure or pedicure—or both! Also, chances are you’ve picked up an exercise routine to help reach your weight-loss goals. Hence, you probably have some pretty sore muscles. Treat them to some relief with a massage.
Third, you can purchase a new pair of running shoes. Choose a shoe that can lend some support to help take your workout to the next level.
And don’t be scared to change it up! A new, healthier you could call for a change in hairstyle. Never underestimate the power of a new haircut.
