Can you believe another summer is almost over and a new school year is about to begin? While you may be trying to make the most of the last days of summer, be sure to use them to your advantage by preparing for a healthy school year!
School Is Back in Session
Just as was stated in our last blog, sleep is vital to your health. This is especially true for children, who need approximately 10 to 11 hours of sleep each night for elementary students and at least eight hours for those older students, in order to be at the top of their game. While summers are spent staying up late, it is time to start putting an earlier bedtime in place in order to prepare their bodies for getting up early during the school year.
Lunch is also an area that can be used as a health session. For instance, skip the chips and cookie, and pack a nutritious lunch full of protein and fiber to keep their energy going throughout the stay, such as a turkey sandwich on wheat bread, some carrot sticks with ranch or celery with peanut butter, and a yogurt for their dessert. Also, do not forget to send them off to school with a healthy breakfast in their stomachs!
In addition, germs are going to be everywhere, and they will find their way into your home. Teach your children the importance of washing their hands frequently, as well as covering their mouth when they cough and sneeze.
